Water can enter the rear door switch in certain Toyota Prius models and cause a short circuit, which may allow a rear door to open unexpectedly while driving. An open door while the vehicle is moving increases the risk of serious injury.

What is recalled

2023 to 2024 Toyota Prius Prime, 2023 to 2026 Toyota Prius, and 2025 to 2026 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicles.

Am I affected

You're affected if you own a 2023 or 2024 Prius Prime, a 2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026 Prius, or a 2025 or 2026 Prius Plug-in Hybrid. Check your vehicle's model year and trim level on your registration or vehicle identification number (VIN).

What to do right now

Contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 to schedule a free dealer appointment to have your rear door switch modified. Interim notification letters were mailed March 26, 2026; additional letters with repair scheduling details will be sent in Q2 2026. If your vehicle was repaired under the previous recall (NHTSA 24V274), it will need the new remedy performed as well.
