Ford Mustang, Explorer & Maverick Recall 2025

2026 FORD MUSTANG: ENGINE

Updated December 1, 2025

Ford is recalling certain 2026 Explorer, Mustang, and Lincoln Corsair vehicles, plus certain 2025 Maverick trucks, because the cylinder head may have been improperly manufactured. This can cause oil to leak onto hot engine or exhaust parts, creating a fire risk, and can also cause the engine to seize and the vehicle to lose power while driving.

Is the Ford Motor Company recalled? Yes. This product was recalled by NHTSA on December 1, 2025. Details below.

What is recalled

Certain 2026 Ford Explorer, 2026 Ford Mustang, 2026 Lincoln Corsair, and 2025 Ford Maverick vehicles. All affected vehicles are currently in dealership inventory and have not yet been delivered to retail owners. Ford's internal recall reference number is 25SD3. You can look up your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at NHTSA.gov to confirm whether your vehicle is included.

Am I affected

You are affected if you have taken delivery of, or are purchasing, a 2026 Ford Explorer, 2026 Ford Mustang, 2026 Lincoln Corsair, or a 2025 Ford Maverick. Check your VIN at NHTSA.gov (VINs became searchable on November 24, 2025). Ford's recall number is 25SD3.

What to do right now

Take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the cylinder head assembly replaced free of charge. Because these vehicles are currently in dealer inventory, Ford will not mail owner notification letters, so you need to act proactively. Call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or look up your VIN at NHTSA.gov for confirmation.

The hazard

An oil leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components increases the risk of a fire. In addition, the loss of oil can result in engine seizure and loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
