Energizer Recalls Rechargeable Lanterns Due to Overheating

Energizer is recalling its Large Power Indicator Lantern (model BGAAL9) because the built-in lithium-ion battery can overheat, posing a burn hazard. Only lanterns with a date code of June 2024 are affected.

What is recalled

Energizer Large Power Indicator Lantern, a cone-shaped portable light with an opaque lens, gray top, large power button, and red handle with "Energizer" printed on the side. Model number: BGAAL9. SKU: 039800143341 or 039800143334. Only units with a date code of June 2024 (shown on the base as two circles, one arrow pointing to "24" for the year, one arrow pointing to "6" for the month) are part of this recall. The model number is on the bottom of the lantern, on the removable cover over the charging cord storage area. The SKU is on the packaging.

Am I affected

You're affected if you own an Energizer Large Power Indicator Lantern AND all three of the following match: (1) model number BGAAL9 (on the bottom of the lantern, on the removable cover); (2) SKU 039800143341 or 039800143334 (on the packaging); and (3) a date code of June 2024, shown on the base as two circles, with one arrow pointing to "24" (year) and another pointing to "6" (month).

What to do right now

Stop using the lantern immediately. Contact Energizer to register for the recall and receive a prepaid shipping label to return the lantern for a full refund. You'll need to provide proof of the affected date code. Do not throw the lantern or its battery in the trash, curbside recycling, or used-battery drop boxes at retail stores, lithium-ion batteries require special disposal. Contact your local household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center first to confirm they accept recalled lithium-ion devices.
