Certain 2025 Ford Explorer and Aviator vehicles have a defective body control module that can prevent trailer tail lights from illuminating when towing. Dark tail lights on a trailer reduce visibility to other drivers and increase crash risk.

You're affected if you own a 2025 Ford Explorer or 2025 Ford Aviator and tow a trailer. Check your owner notification letter (Explorer owners received letters in November 2025; Aviator owners in October 2025) or contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 with your vehicle identification number (VIN).

What to do right now

Contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or visit a Ford dealer to have the body control module inspected and replaced free of charge. Dealers will perform a functional check and replace the module if needed. Ford's recall reference number is 25C42.
